AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
Downtown Augusta brought in the
New Year differently this year. Local business owners told FOX54 many
were upset after the annual ball drop was canceled.
1102 Restaurant Bar & Grill manager
Eric Williamson was disappointed this New Year's was less eventful. The past 6
years, local business owners and friends have built a News Year's ball to be dropped at
midnight.
"We wanted to have the ball
drop but it really wasn't our decision not to have it," said Williamson. "It
has to be a culmination of all the bars around here coming together to close
the street off so if one is not participating then no one can really
participate."
Planning efforts which take months.
For no specific reason, the collaboration just didn't happen in 2012.
Williamson said it was an event
people certainly missed this year.
"Hopefully it's on the list for
next year," said Williamson.
