One man was fatally shot at a New Year's Eve party at a nightclub in South Augusta early Tuesday morning.

Richmond County investigators say Edward Yancey, 21, was found dead in the parking lot of Club Fiasco on Peach Orchard Road. Deputies say he died from an apparent gunshot wound just before 2:30 a.m.

Investigators say the shooting is believed to be the result of an argument that occurred inside of the club, and continued into the parking lot of the nightclub. Investigators say Yancey was not believed to have been involved in the argument.

Richmond County deputies are now asking for the public's assistance in identifying any additional witnesses who may have been present and can provide more information on what occurred. They're asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at (706) 821-1080 or during normal business hours at (706) 821-1020. Callers may remain anonymous.

This is the first homicide in Richmond County in 2013.
