Posted: Updated:
AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

We're learning more details after two men were shot in Augusta tonight, resulting in the death of one of those men.

Lt. Blaise Dresser with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office tells us that Trezmaine Williams and Dontavius Payne arrived at a residence on the 2000 block of Second Avenue and tried to rob Marcus Gainey at gunpoint. Gainey was able to brandish his own firearm and shot the two men.

Williams ran to First Avenue where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Payne was rushed to GHS Medical Center in critical condition.

Additionally, Payne and Williams have active Felony Warrants for Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.  The men were codefendants in an unrelated case involving their active warrants.

Original Story:

One person is dead and another person is in the hospital after a shooting in Augusta.

The shooting started on Third Avenue, and the deceased victim was found on First Avenue.

The Richmond County Coroner's Office has confirmed the deceased victim is Trezmaine Williams, 18, of Augusta. The other victim has yet to be identified; we also don't know his condition at this time.

RCSO investigators are still working to find out what happened, but believe they have the suspected shooter in custody.
