PIKE ROAD, AL (WSFA) -

The final number of confirmed tornadoes to touch down in Alabama on Christmas Day is set at 15, according to surveyors with the National Weather Service.

The number is historic, as reliable records starting in 1950 show that before this storm system, there is not a known tornado to have ever hit Alabama on Christmas Day.

The newest confirmation is being made in Montgomery County where an EF-1 tornado made a brief touch down near Waugh and Pike Road.

The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 90mph and traveled a distance of just under three quarters of a mile. The tornado's path was 100 yards wide.

The twister made contact with the ground at 10:29pm along County Road 107 (Marler Road) where it caused minor shingle damage to a single-family home. It was on the ground for less than a minute.

The tornado continued to the northeast and crossed Avenue of the Oaks before lifting at the end of Dellsena Lane.

While there were no injuries or fatalities reported with this tornado, approximately fifty trees were snapped or uprooted along its path.

As of Friday afternoon, tornadoes had been confirmed in Choctaw, Clarke, Crenshaw, Lowndes, Pike, Marengo, Mobile, Montgomery, Washington and Wilcox counties.
