GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

Gadsden police say they've arrested who they describe as a person of interest in an animal cruelty case they were investigating.

Officers say John Michael Smith was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Police wanted to talk to him after a dachshund named Skip was found mutilated in the Alabama City area of Gadsden. A veterinarian says the dog was alive when he was attacked. Officers are still not clear about a motive.

A $900 reward is being offered for information related to this case.
