Aiken girl, 9, receives, donates over 600 pairs of shoes

It all started with nine year old Rebecca Moore's not-so-average Christmas letter to Santa Claus.

"Dear Santa, I want 300 pairs of shoes to give to people in need," Rebecca reads.

She says she got the idea after her older sister donated all of her Christmas gifts to the less fortunate a few years ago.

Rebecca wanted to help those in need as well.

It's becoming a family tradition that has proud parents Emily and Jimmy beaming.

"Oh, we're just overwhelmed with pride," Emily says. "It's something we do try to instill in them, and it's obviously taken some good effect."

Rebecca's Christmas wish came true, and then some.

When she came into the family's living room Christmas morning, she found much more than she had bargained for.

"That whole corner was filled with shoes," Rebecca remembers.

Covering her living room floor was over double what she asked for- 613 pairs of children's shoes.

"I was just really surprised," she says.

The shoes even came with a return letter from Santa, thanking Rebecca for her Christmas spirit.

"I will be keeping an eager eye out to see all the greatness that comes from this special Christmas gift," she reads. "Truly yours, Santa Claus."

Now the shoes are on their way to help hundreds of children in the Aiken area.

"I'm going to The Children's Place and Helping Hands to give them the shoes," Rebecca says.

She just hopes her Christmas wish will help make another child's Christmas.

"It's really cool that I could see people going around in shoes that I might have given them," Rebecca says.

Her wish will also have an international impact.

Rebecca's uncle is set to go on a mission trip to Honduras soon. She says he can take some of the shoes with him to give to children there.
