DEMOPOLIS, AL (WSFA) -

The National Weather Service survey team is rating a tornado that touched down in Marengo County near Demopolis on Christmas as an EF-1 with a peak wind of 100 mph.

There were no injuries or fatalities reported from the storm, but investigators say 2 mobile homes were destroyed while several others sustained damage. A dozen homes suffered roof damage, while a church reported partial roof damage.

The NWS preliminary survey shows the tornado touched down around 5:54pm west of U.S. Highway 43 near Marengo Farms Road. The tornado tracked for 5.9 miles with a width of 500 yards.

The tornado moved northeastward across U.S. Highway 43 where it caused damage near Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Old Springhill Road, Reed Drive and Sunset Road.

The tornado nearly paralleled U.S. Highway 80, according to surveyors, before it crossed into Hale County.
