State EMA urges preparedness ahead of potential severe weather outbreak

Posted: Updated:

The State EMA is preparing for the potential of tornadoes and other forms of severe weather on Christmas Day.  State EMA Director Art Faulkner said he has briefed the Governor on the state's readiness in case storms could strike.

"Conditions change one way or the other and when you do have severe weather that could impact the state that it could be worse or it may not be as bad," Faulkner said.  "So what we're urging people to do it have a plan."

Faulkner said people should have their weather radios ready to go, or have other ways to access weather warnings.  Even if they're traveling, people should check the radar before leaving, and know what they will do if severe weather strikes at their destination.

Faulkner said many state agencies have additional personnel on stand-by, and the Red Cross is also available to open shelters if needed.
