AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
Fifty people gathered at Jackson
Middle School in Aiken County on Saturday. Sporting Sandy Hook Elementary
School green and white spirit colors, they posed for a picture offering smiles and
hope for all those affected by the tragedy.
A picture worth a thousand words is
exactly what Holy Foreman had in mind to show support for the victims of the
Connecticut shooting.
"So many people wanted to do
something, they were just like me, they just didn't know what to do," said
Foreman.
For some, this was also the
reality that it could have happened to anyone.
"I don't even know how I could
even move forward if that happened to one of my children," said Marchia
Monteiro.
As communities all over the nation try to move
forward in the days following this tragedy, one JMS student says they are
taking extra precautions.
"Everybody has been tensed
up. Our school has been on lockdown because they are worried someone is going
to try to come to our school," said 8th grader Jesse Baldy.
However, Saturday's demeanor at JMS
was much lighter; full of laughter, smiles, and huge hearts.
"I am so glad that we had
the people that came out today to be able to support and show how much that we
as a community can come together to do just a small gesture for them,"
said Foreman.
The picture will be mailed next Thursday to Sandy
Hook Elementary School in Connecticut and will hopefully provide some comfort
to those suffering.
