Local church provides week's worth of food to needy families

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A local church is helping feed those in need, both physically and spiritually, this holiday season.

The Mordecai Family Foundation of Bethel Covenant Worship Center handed out grocery bags of food to needy families Saturday.

Each bag contained a large supply of non-perishable food items, including boxed cereal, rice, grits, and other items, as well as a New Testament Bible and some devotional materials.

The church says they wanted to make sure the help they were providing would last.

"There were times where donations were given just for that day," says Pastor Reginald Bynes. "Our idea was to give something that would last longer than a day, and we think this will last at least a week."
