Hikers find body in wash near Sierra Vista

Posted: Updated:

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a decomposing body was found in a wash south of Sierra Vista.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas said two women called deputies Wednesday afternoon saying they had found human remains. Deputies walked into the wash and found a group of rocks making an arrow and pointing toward the body.

Capas says the body was significantly decomposed but appears to be male. The person was dressed in brown work boots, dark jeans and a shirt.

The remains were taken to the Medical Examiner's office in Pima County for an autopsy to determine identity and cause of death.
