More than 2,000 soldiers were released from Fort Gordon early Thursday morning. The soldiers will head to their homes to spend time with their families for a two-week break.
Beginning at 12 a.m., parents came to Fort Gordon to check their children out.
Some soldiers say they've been waiting for weeks for this day to come.
"It was the longest last 10 days countdown," said Tia Rodriguez. She was one of 37 soldiers checked out from the 369th Signal Battalion. "So me and my
battle buddies started counting down these last 10 days, and now we're just
waiting. I'm waiting for my family to get here now."
The soldiers will return to Fort Gordon on January 3rd.
