UPDATE: Richmond County Investigators arrested Verdre Lamont Scott, 16 years old, in connection with the shooting death of Martez Stephon Davis.  Scott will be charged as an adult with Felony Murder.

Investigators believe Scott and Davis attempted to rob James Erick Gibbons Jr., 17 years old, at gunpoint in a backyard on the 2300 block of Amsterdam Drive.  During this Armed Robbery, Gibbons was shot.  Gibbons, who was also armed returned fire, striking Davis. Gibbons is presently in custody but still receiving Medical treatment.

Gibbons will be charged with Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle and booked into the Richmond County Jail after his medical treatment is completed.

Gibbons' charge arises from a motor vehicle theft which occurred minutes before this shooting incident.  In that incident Gibbons stole a truck which was parked at the Sprint gas Station located at 2202 Gordon Highway.

Scott will be committed to the Regional Youth Detention Center.

This is Richmond County's 31st Murder of 2012.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a shooting in the Barton Village subdivision in Augusta.

Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose confirms to FOX54 that one victim of that incident has died.

Martez S. Davis, 16, was pronounced dead at GHS Medical Center at 10:22 p.m. Boose says Davis had at least one gunshot wound. A full autopsy will be performed in the Thursday morning.
