AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
KISS 93.6 FM and The Association
of Interdenominational Ministries United hosted a candle light vigil in memory
of the children and brave adults from Sandy Hook Elementary School.
"This is the beginning, this
is a start. I think this is something that should happen and we should come
together as community," said KISS 93.6 FM's Selina Soul Butler.
People gathered Monday to hear
words of peace and unity and to provide comfort in this time of despair. The
service included remarks from Augusta officials, including Mayor Deke Copenhaver.
"Let us go out and be that light and
solve this problem together," said Mayor Copenhaver.
The message tonight was not just
to remember those who have been affected by this tragedy but a reminder that no
change comes without initiative. Richmond County Commissioner Alvin Mason
agrees it's time to take action.
"If we don't do nothing, nothing is going to
happen. And so the least we can do is to try something," said Commissioner
Mason.
Upcoming remembrance events:
Saturday, December 22 at 3 p.m. Jackson Middle
School in Aiken County will host a group photo opportunity on the football field. Please dress in green and white, the spirit colors
of Sandy Hook Elementary. The picture will be sent to Connecticut to show
support.
