Garland recently introduced a high-performance single-component moisture-curing primer for metal roof applications requiring rust inhibition and high chemical-corrosion resistance. White-Knight® Metal Primer coating is an all-purpose aromatic urethane with non-lifting properties that make it an ideal primer for urethane topcoats, such as Garland’s White-Knight® coating system.

The Garland Company, Inc. recently introduced White-Knight® Metal Primer coating, an all-purpose aromatic urethane with non-lifting properties that make it an ideal primer for urethane topcoats. It is especially effective as a basecoat for Garland’s White-Knight® restoration system.
The primer is very durable and offers excellent adhesion to properly prepared metal surfaces. Its resistance to mild industrial fumes and light chemical conditions make it an excellent primer for aging industrial roofs in need of restoration. It is designed for application to stainless steel, galvanized metals, Galvalume®-coated metals, copper, aluminum, and Kynar®-coated metal roof systems.
When applied as the primer coating under a White-Knight topcoat, White-Knight Metal Primer coating provides a durable foundation for a sustainable roof system that is easily maintained. The long-term cost benefits offered by this state-of-the-art technology include lower life-cycle costs and energy savings.
According to Garland product manager, Tom Stuewe, “First, it’s user friendly; the ease of application makes White-Knight Metal Primer fast and simple to install. Also, it can be used over a variety of metal substrates. It’s designed to maintain and protect metals from rusting and breaking down, and provides a clean surface for the coating system. White-Knight Metal Primer protects and preserves metal rooftop investments, avoiding costly replacements due to oxidation and rust.”
Metal roof surfaces can be prepared for the primer by cleaning with a Tri Sodium Phosphate (TSP) cleaning agent or with a non-toxic biodegradable industrial cleaning solution such as Simple Green®. When the base coat is followed by multiple coats of White-Knight combined with Garland’s Ulti-Mat™ fiberglass or Grip Polyester® Soft reinforcement, the resulting White-Knight restoration system cures to a durable, weatherproof, reinforced, and fully-adhered elastomeric membrane.
