CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Post office employees are joining together to bring some holiday cheer to a family in Conway after intercepting a young girl's letter to Santa.

District Communications Coordinator for US Postal Service Harry Spratlin says, "We get thousands of Santa letters annually, and we process them to send a reply card, if they have a return address."

"If there's a need for assistance expressed in the letter, we return it for local help," Spratlin adds.

They received one of those letters from a young child in Conway, whose family is in desperate need of charitable assistance.

The letter reads, "I am eight years old and my mom has no money."

The young girl continues to say that her dad died when she was a baby, and she asks Santa to, "please visit me and make this a happy Christmas."

Post script, the girl says her mom didn't know she was writing this letter to Santa Claus.

Employees in the Conway postal office where the letter originated are working together to provide for this family's needs. They will be delivering the toys, food and clothing to the family on Dec. 18.
