Fort Gordon soldiers and sailors battle for bragging rights on the gridiron

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of JROTC cadets and active duty service members hit the gridiron for their 5th annual Army Navy flag football game. The game follows a 113-year tradition of the Army and Navy schools battle it out on national television.

Saturday morning soldiers and sailors fought for their teams, not in the war fields, but on the Engineers Field at Fort Gordon. Soldiers say it's an opportunity to take their mind off combat.

"This is amazing it takes your mind away from it," said Sgt 1st Class Paul Joseph, a player for the Army team. "It's kind of an escape from it and we love it."

The players are also fighting for something else:

"It's very important to both the students and active duty, because it's bragging rights for the entire year," said Vincent Krajico, Community Relations Coordinator for Fort Gordon's Navy.
