AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

An accused gunman in a 2011 murder will have to wait a little longer before he knows his fate.
Johndrick Barnes was supposed to be sentenced Wednesday morning, but the case has been continued after prosecutors and the defense made a request to the court.

Barnes is charged with malice, felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime for the shooting death of 19-year-old James Gillette Jr. who was killed at the Belair Conference Center in March 2011.

Investigators say Gillette was working a sweet sixteen party when a fight broke out. As people were leaving the building, Barnes began threatening to fire off shots in the parking lot outside of the facility. Investigators say Gillette was trying to get patrons back into the building when he was shot.

No word on a new date at this time.
