AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
One
Augusta man can have a blast this holiday season since snapping up a
half-million dollar prize from the Georgia Lottery. Samuel Testino, 69, grabbed
the new instant game $500,000 Green and won a $500,000 top prize.
Georgia
Lottery representatives presented Testino with an oversized check Tuesday at
DLS Gas Station, 3735 Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta, where he purchased the
winning ticket.
"The
clerk told me about the new ticket," the father of five said. "I went back to
work before scratching it in my truck."
Coincidentally,
Testino won his prize on his youngest son's birthday.
"I
couldn't believe it," he said. "I'm ecstatic."
Testino,
who works part-time in marketing, and his wife, Dale, will share an
unforgettable holiday season with family.
"It's
going to be absolutely wonderful," he exclaimed.
Since
its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion
to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay
for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program
and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE,
and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary
prekindergarten program.
