NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) -
Tyesha Simmons is still trying to
piece together how her younger brother became a victim of violence.
"You hear about it on the
news all the time; you read about it, but when it happens to you, it's totally
different," Simmons said. "You lost your brother, you lost a piece of the family; a piece of
the community is gone."
Travis Smith, 28, was shot
and killed late September at Ridgeview Manor Apartment complex in North
Augusta. Since then, North Augusta Public Safety has only gotten a few tips to
work with in the case.
"For some reason, there's
information out there and people are reluctant to give it to us, and I really
don't understand why," said North Augusta Public Safety. "We are continuing to follow every lead that we
have."
North Augusta Public Safety
is now offering a $1,000 reward for any information that could lead to this
unsolved case. The family is helping by posting these flyers around the
neighborhood, but that's not the only thing they're doing to bring attention to
this issue.
Along with posting reward flyers
on poles, Simmons is organizing a "Stop the Violence" rally; inviting
other families who have lost loved ones, hoping people will come forward with
information that could help police with any unsolved murders like Smith's.
"We hope that this will
encourage them to keep fighting for their loved one, and maybe if people know
anything about these cases, they can come together and talk to the
police," Simmons said.
And as police
continue their investigation into Smith's death, Simmons will continue looking
for closure.
