Rogue teams with Powell's to create book-infused beer

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A beer maker is partnering with a book seller to create a whale of an ale.

Powell's Books and Rogue Ales and Spirits have joined forces to release the White Whale Ale.

The story goes like this, Michael Powell landed a first edition copy of Herman Melville's The Whale at an auction in Chicago. The book would subsequently be called Moby Dick in later editions.

The special edition beer is a tribute to the Powell family as well as the legacy of the iconic Portland bookstore, according to Rogue. This year marks the 41st anniversary of Powell's Books.

The brewmasters didn't just stop at slapping the book's name on the bottle, however. No, there are actual pages from a book in the beer.

Rogue said sheets from a copy of Moby Dick were placed in the brew kettle during the beer-making process.

If you want to try it, White Whale Ale is available at Rogue Hall and the Rogue Distillery and Public House. Commemorative bottles are also available at Rogue.com.
