A guide to cartoon Christmas specials

(RNN) - An exasperated Charlie Brown once threw up his hands and asked "Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?"

Good friend and token sage Linus Van Pelt then quotes perhaps one of the most famous passages of scripture, Luke 2, detailing the birth of Christ, and proclaims matter of factly, "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."

Let's face it, it's just not Christmas until America's favorite Peanut faces an existential crisis generally unknown to toy-hungry 6-year-olds.

Or until the misfit toys find loving homes and Rudolph returns to Christmas Town.

And it's not Christmas until the Grinch, whose heart was two sizes too small, hadn't stopped Christmas from coming at all.

"And what happened then? Well, in Whoville they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day … and he brought back the toys and the food for the feast. And he, he himself, the Grinch carved the roast beast."

No matter our age, Christmas specials remind us all of the wonder of Christmas, bringing out the kid in us all.

Be sure your kids - or the kid in you - don't miss your favorites this holiday season. All airtimes eastern.
