AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
Schernesse Broyles searched for
clothes for her son Wednesday.
"To come here and receive clothes
is a blessing because my son is actually walking around with one pair of pants,"
said Broyles.
This holiday season looks much
different for them than it has in the past.
"In the past Thanksgiving was
wonderful because we had our own home," Broyles, said.
But since they lost their house and
nearly all of their clothes - they're picking through free clothes at the
Garden City Rescue Mission.
"This is a difficult time of year
for me because recently I've lost everything; I just have my car, my children,"
said Broyles.
Not only is she receiving some help
with clothes but she also has a meal to sit down to.
400 meal tickets were given to less
fortunate people in the CSRA; so they could sit down and enjoy a traditional
Thanksgiving meal.
The meal was served by volunteers with
Meybohm Realty and the Garden City Rescue Mission.
"This is just one way we can show
how thankful we are for what this community does for us and our company,"
said the president of Meybohm Realty Bill Boatman.
"I'm thankful for a crowd, I'm
thankful for God's people to see this many people help us to help others,"
said Keith Pope the Executive Director for the Garden City Rescue Mission.
Their help Wednesday brought tears to
Broyle's eyes.
"I'm just choked up with words
that this community comes together the way that they do to give a meal and to
give free clothes," said Broyles.
About 100 people donated food and clothes to Wednesday's
thanksgiving dinner.
