Woman recovering from gunshot wound, shooter still on the loose

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas woman is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound, while her shooter is still on the loose.

The shooting happened on Friday, at the Austin Bank on West Commerce in Jacksonville.

"He beat on the window with an unknown object. Then, he produced a firearm, fired one round, at least one round, into the vehicle. The bullet struck the business owner," said Sgt. Jason Price with the Jacksonville Police Department.

Louise Barnett, 66, who owns Jacksonville's Razorback Grocery Store, sat in her car with a gunshot wound to her hand and shoulder, meanwhile the suspect grabbed Barnett's money bag and took off on foot.

This is not the first time Barnett has been the victim of robbery. Police said someone robbed her grocery store less than two weeks before.

Police said several witnesses described the suspect in the robbery at Austin Bank as a black male in his mid 20's, wearing a red hoodie.

The Jacksonville Police Department gathered surveillance video from Austin Bank and other local businesses in hopes to get a good picture of the suspect.

"The investigators along with two FBI agents have been working 16 hour days, following leads, talking to suspects and things of that nature," said Jacksonville Chief of Police, Reece Daniel.

Daniel wants East Texans to know both Cherokee County Crime Stoppers and the FBI are offering a reward for the person who brings this suspect to justice.

"There's someone out there who knows who this person is," Chief Daniel said.

As Barnett recovers at a local hospital, Chief Daniel wants the public to know, "I have no doubt we'll get this person before it's over with and it won't be long."
