HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Another Huntsville park is already starting to look a little different.

The first, public outdoor ice skating rink at Big Spring Park opens Wednesday.

Crews spent the day Tuesday filling the rink and decorating it.

The Huntsville Museum of Art and PNC Bank will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. to kick off Skating in the Park.

The rink is a big fund raiser for the museum. Organizers say it's great outdoor fun for families.

"It brings great life to the park when normally in December, January, February it's pretty quiet, there's not much activity in the park; so this is spearheading what we hope will become a yearly tradition," said Christopher Madkour with the Huntsville Museum of Art.

Also in the park, you can walk the tinsel trail with dozens of soon-to-be decorated Christmas trees sponsored by local businesses.

The skating rink will stay open through January 5th. The hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday: noon to 10 p.m., Friday noon to 12 a.m., Saturday: 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday: noon to 8 p.m.
