Welcome to Raycom News Network's live blog from SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL.
In 2013, nine teams brought a quarterback to SEC Media Days. This year only five are scheduled to do so. Only one of those players – Ole Miss’ Bo Wallace – was a full-time starter in 2013.
LSU linebacker Kevin Minter has been named one of five finalists for the 2012 Butkus Award honoring the nation's top football linebackers.
Three of the five finalists play in the SEC.
Minter, a junior from Suwanee, GA, has a team-high 101 tackles in the 11 games so far this year.
He has also had 13.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, five pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, one interception and one forced fumble.
Minter had a school-record 17 solo stops in a 14-6 loss to Florida.
In the same game, he had 20 tackles, which ranks second highest in school history.
It's also the most tackles for an LSU player since 1988.
Minter was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week following both the Florida and Texas A&M games.
Minter also earned three national honors for the 24-19 win over the Aggies in which he had 12 tackles, an interception, one sack, a pass break-up and two quarterback hurries.
Finalists were selected by a panel of 51 coaches, scouts and journalists supervised by Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly.
Winners will be announced the first week in December.
Finalists for 2012 include:
Kevin Minter, LSU (Jr.) Jarvis Jones, Georgia (Jr.) Dion Jordan, Oregon (Sr.) C.J. Mosley, Alabama (Jr.) Manti Te'o, Notre Dame (Sr.)

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
