CR 12: Montgomery Man Tunes up for "The Voice"

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

He pays the bills by driving a truck.   But the only tune up he's interested in right now, is getting ready for his audition for NBC's hit show "The Voice."    Lionel Huffman has been singing for a long time.  "I've been singing since I was two years old," Huffman said.  He has spent most of his 29 years singing in churches and choirs.

Months ago he put a clip of his work on the website for "The Voice".   The must have liked it.   "When I got my notification about the audition I was shocked."   So now he's getting ready.  But when he's not singing he's driving.  Who needs the radio when you're rolling with Lionel.    "When it first started I had a partner so I had to keep it down.   Now I drive alone so I turn it up and sing down the road."

His vocal instructor says he has a shot if he doesn't try to do too much.   "When he sings he's got that sultry voice,"  Brannon Littleton said.   "It's something that no amount of training could give him.  It's soulful, he's got that crooning going on."

All Huffman can do now is prepare and get ready for what could be his big break.   "The only thing I can do to get them to turn around is be myself, express what I have."

Huffman will audition on January 19th at 7 a.m.   If he does well he'll advance to the next audition.   If he makes it through both he will be heading for "The Voice".   We wish him the best and will let you know if he moves on.
