Music City Center progresses toward April completion

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Music City Center is just six months away from opening, and officials offered a look inside the massive building Friday as crews begin the final phase of work.

Signs are going up, escalators are being tested, columns are complete and outside the exhibit halls special carpet is going down to withstand constant foot traffic.

"Each thread is dyed individually and then woven through the backing, so it's got a really long life span," said spokeswoman Holly McCall.

Perhaps the most impressive place when the building is finished will be the grand ballroom, which can set 6,000. And with all the wood panels and fine-tuned acoustics, you might feel like you are sitting inside a giant guitar.

"So, at a corporate event for instance, let's say Nissan has an event here and they want to treat their guests to great entertainment - you can be eating your dinner, completely unaware that Taylor Swift or Keith Urban is warming up until those wood doors slide open," McCall said.

Although construction is not yet complete, in some places the final cleaning has already started.

"You cannot clean this building like you clean your house, in a day or a weekend, so final cleaning has already started in some areas. For instance, the garage is finished. They are cleaning the garage. As each area is finished, they'll move in waves to get that done," McCall said.

No matter where you walk in the Music City Center, the dozens of windows throughout the building will provide great views of downtown Nashville.

McCall said construction is set to be complete April 30, with the grand opening in late May.
