MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Amber Jacobi isn't the first and won't be the last victim of theft.  But she's shocked by the fallout, after she took to the internet to try and solve the crime against her.

Jacobi was at a Buffalo Wild Wings, when a group of young strangers struck up a conversation.

"We were just all hanging out," said Jacobi.  "They just came up and said oh I love your boots just trying to get my attention away from my purse," she added.

During the exchange Jacobi's iPhone disappeared.  Hours later a self portrait of a young man, who appears to be a minor, appeared on her Facebook page.

"So it pops up and I'm sitting there and I'm looking at it and I'm like somebody just posted a picture of themselves with my phone on my Facebook," stated Jacobi.

Missy Smith, Jacobi's mother, asked Action News Five's Facebook Fans for help.

"I posted it on your page hoping somebody could help us get her phone back because it's so expensive," said Smith.

Jacobi isn't as surprised at being a victim of a crime as she is by what's happened since.

"759 people have actually commented on it," said Jacobi.

Of the more than 750 people who have commented, very few are sympathizers, accusing Jacobi of being racist and putting her needs before the plight of unborn children and endangered turtles.

"I understand it's just a phone, but that has all my business contacts, pictures on it I can never get back," explained Jacobi.

One commenter said her son was with the boy who has the phone, but won't identify him.

Jacobi hoped the internet would help solve the crime against her...instead it created a Facebook fire storm.

"So, far one lead and it didn't go very far.  I just want my phone, that's all," Jacobi said.

Jacobi learned an important lesson...she should have backed up the data on her phone.  She hopes the parents of the young man who has it will teach him and lesson by making him give it back.
