Emanuel Co. deputies search for three escaped inmates

Authorities continue to search for three men who managed to escape from the Emanuel County jail.

Originally, six inmates were able to escape...but as of Monday investigators locked up three.

"We have no reason to believe at this time that any of them are armed. We've had no reports of any theft of firearms or entering autos which is unusual," Sheriff Tyson Stephens said.

Matthew Findley, Jeffrey Webb, and Cecil "Red" Nelson are still on the run.

Deputies, U.S. Marshals, and the FBI searched Monday for the three remaining escapees.

Nelson is particularly important to the FBI after he pled guilty to kidnapping Bryan County businessmen last year.

Agents suspect he may try to return to Pembroke, but his family said there has been no sign of him.

"I'm not worried he is coming back and I don't think he will harm anyone," Chrissy Williams said.

Rodney Roundtree told WFXG he escaped from the Emanuel County Jail in 1995 with three fellow prisoners.

"We bombarded the guard and ran up out of there. I wish I wouldn't have done it. I'm still on parole right now," Roundtree said.

He says he was the last in his group to get caught and he says it's only a matter of time before police find the men.

"They are going to catch them," he said.

The FBI is offering a five thousand dollar reward for information leading to Nelson. If you have any information, call 912-232-3716.
