AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
A woman was shot to death by her boyfriend who
then pulled the trigger on himself in a Hephzibah home Friday night, according
to Richmond County deputies.
"It's pretty bad it's sad, very sad. I
don't know the daughter that's over there but she came running out of the house
saying that her mother was dead, her mother was dead. So we were all right here
waiting," said neighbor, Tammy Black.
Black and other neighbors on the 3700 block
of Bath Patterson Road were waiting for answers to the blue lights flashing
outside their neighbor's home.
With daylight came some answers,
investigators believe Daniel Gray shot and killed his girlfriend, 42-year-old
Sandra Studer about 9 PM Friday night.
"We heard a woman screaming, we heard a
woman screaming loud," said neighbor Tammy Black.
Investigators say after Gray killed his
girlfriend, he turned the gun on himself. Those who knew him say he suffered
from a mental illness.
"He was kind of disabled a bit; he
wasn't all the way there," said neighbor James Jones.
Neighbors say Gray had a troubled history and
two months ago police surrounded the house when they were told he was making
threats with a gun.
"They had a whole SWAT team over there
and that's what alerted us tonight to call the law," Goldie Black, said.
After Gray was found with a gunshot wound
Friday night, he was rushed to the hospital; he died Saturday afternoon.
Investigators are calling the shooting that
ended two lives a murder suicide.
"I didn't think it was going to be a murder
it shocked me," said Goldie Black.
Jones said, "Very surprising, very
surprising."
"Very,
very sad, very sad," Tammy Black, said.
Deputies
are investigating a fight among family members as something that may have led
to the shooting.
Gray's
body is scheduled for an autopsy on Monday.
