2 charged with deaths of couple on Navajo Nation

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AP) -

Two men each are facing up to three life terms in prison after a grand jury indicted them in the deaths of a couple on the Navajo Nation.

Authorities say Therron Crank and Gerallino Bedonie killed Vladimir and Karlysha Hurley last month in Inscription House. They are charged with first- and second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Crank's attorney, David Barrow, said Thursday that the case is defensible and both men could walk free. Bedonie's attorney, John Trebon, said he's looking into Vladimir Hurley's criminal record, which includes time served for assaulting Karlysha Hurley in January 2011.

Crank and Bedonie are accused in the indictment of fatally stabbing the Hurleys and burying them in a shallow grave. They made initial appearances this week in federal court in Flagstaff.
