TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Tempe police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man suspected of trying to rape an Arizona State University student.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the apartment of a 19-year-old woman, according to Molly Enright of the Tempe Police Department.

Enright said the woman, who did not know her attacker, fought the man off and was able to run from the apartment in the 900 block of South Terrace.

Tempe investigators and patrol officers were going door to door, questioning residents in the complex for information.

The suspect is described as Hispanic in his late 40s or early 50s, 5'5" tall, hefty build and wearing a red T-shirt with black writing and shorts that covered his knees.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377). A tip can be submitted anonymously at Silentwitness.org.

A $1,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect.
