Thief steals iPads from school serving students with autism

WILSONVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

A thief stole a load of iPads from Wilsonville school that serves children with autism.

Clackamas County deputies said the thief broke into Victory Academy and got away with $3,000 worth of iPads.

They said someone tried to break into the school over the summer but they were unsuccessful.

In September, deputies said two iPads were stolen from a locked cabinet, and this past weekend, eight more of the devices disappeared.

Teachers said it's a huge loss especially since some of their special-needs students use iPads to verbalize what they're thinking.

Lead Classroom Teacher, Ashley Hatchett said, "it allows them to express themselves in ways that they wouldn't be able to and for many students here it is their main form of communication with the outside world."

School officials are not sure how the thieves got into Victory Academy and said there is no sign of forced entry from the outside the school.

Since the break-ins, the school installed new locks, security cameras and a security system.
