BURKE COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -
Tammy C. Burdeaux, with the East Central Health District, tells FOX54 that the many students, fans, and parents at a football game tonight at Burke County High School will be safe from possible tuberculosis contamination.
These concerns come on the heels of a TB scare at Butler High School. That school's football team will face off against Burke County tonight.
The following was released from the school:
The following vital
points relating to tuberculosis were made this morning by our Nurse Manager at
the Burke County Health Department relating to tonight's football game:
- The football game is outside and not
in a closed or confined environment.
- The outside air significantly
dissipates any airborne tuberculosis bacteria rendering it harmless.
- Burke County fans and band members
will be on opposite sides of the field.
- As a mother I would not hesitate to
take my children to this game and to allow my son to play.
The above statements were confirmed by
a Burke County Physician and by our District TB Coordinator, Kim Taylor-Brown.
On
Wednesday of this week we received a statement from Dr. Gonzalez, Director of
the Richmond County Health Department, that our Bear and Bulldog fans,
students, and players would be safe from tuberculosis at Butler Stadium.
