Local motorcycle group donating clothes to homeless vets

The truck and trailer are packed and ready to go, and the contents inside will hopefully help homeless veterans in the state of South Carolina.

After collecting clothes throughout Aiken and Augusta, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association is delivering the donations to the Midlands Housing Alliance in Columbia, SC for a Department of Veterans Affairs' Stand Down event.

They will ride to Columbia tomorrow morning with a police escort.

During Stand Downs, food, shelter, clothing, and health screenings are provided to homeless individuals, many of them veterans.

The CVMA had a high goal for the clothing drive, but thought it may have been out of reach. They say they were gratefully surprised at the CSRA's response.

"My original goal was to fill this trailer, but I thought that was kind of a long shot and I didn't plan on it being quite that much," says drive organizer Lowell Koppert, showing off the filled 16 ft. long trailer. "It's all going to great use. That's for sure."

Most of the donated clothes were cold-weather and business attire. The group also raised nearly $3500 to donate as well.
