FOX 54 XTRA POINT: WaCo, Thomson showdown a "classic"

"Kids make their legend in games like this," Washington Co. Head Coach Joel Ingram states simply.

Both unbeaten and unscathed, two of the best teams in the state of Georgia locked horns in one of the most anticipated games of the season Friday night.

"Georgia's one of the top states in the country for high school football," says Thomson Head Coach Milan Turner. "They're saying this is one of the best games in the state, so I guess you could say this is one of the best games in the country."

Washington County, 8-0, hosted Thomson, also 8-0, at the "House of Pain" Friday night with the winner putting themselves in position for the Region 3-AAA title.

"I think everybody's turning all eyes to this," says Ingram.

"It's not a matter of life or death, but its extremely important to our kids," Turner says.

A clash that was talked about during the preseason became an even tougher ticket due to the game's magnitude, selling out hours before kickoff.

"They're going to have rowdy fans, supportive fans," Ingram says. "We're going to have rowdy and supportive fans. It's going to be a great experience"

Before the standing-room only crowd, the #2 Bulldogs traded punches with the #3 Golden Hawks.

"Bottom line, it's going to play out for 48 minutes on that grass with that funny shaped ball," Turner told Fox 54 before the game.

And win or lose, the coaches agree this is the kind of game all involved will remember the rest of their lives.

"These are sitting on the front porch during the summer, remembering when," laughs Ingram. "I think it'll be a classic game a lot of people remember."

Thomson took control in the 4th quarter, and stayed undefeated, 28-14.
