Investigators with the Aiken Department of Public Safety arrested twenty-three year old Marcus Antwan Washington of Beech Island, SC, yesterday afternoon in Augusta, Georgia. Washington has been charged with armed robbery in connection with the October 23rd, 2012 armed robbery of an individual at the Knights Inn located at 1850 Richland Avenue West in Aiken, SC. Washington is currently incarcerated at the Richmond County Detention Center. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Aiken County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) R.A.G.E. Unit assisted in the apprehension of Washington.

The ATF Rage Unit is a joint gang/violent crimes task force with officers from Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff's Office, North Augusta Department of Public Safety, Richmond County Sheriff's Office, and ATF agents.

A second suspect, twenty-three year old Kevin Jamell Walker of Clearwater, SC, was arrested on October, 30th, 2012.  Walker was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.  Walker is currently incarcerated at the Aiken County Detention Center.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is on the scene of a possible shooting at the Knights Inn on Richland Avenue in Aiken.

Captain David Turno says that a man staying at the motel reported two armed men storming into his room in an attempted armed robbery.

A struggled ensued, at which point one of the robbers shot himself in the scuffle. Blood was found at the scene.

The motel guest was not shot during the attempted robbery.

Investigators are trying to figure out if this incident is related to another one in Richmond County. They'll be headed down to Augusta to interview the alleged victim in that incident.
