Local charity expands efforts to serve people with disabilities

Augusta, GA (WFXG) - Action Ministries, a charity in with offices across Georgia, reached a new milestone in providing service in the CSRA.

Tuesday afternoon, the non-profit organization held a ribbon cutting welcoming the community to Maxwell House on Greene Street downtown. The Maxwell House was selected by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) as the service provider for the facility. The house is a 216-unit housing development assisting low-income single adults, many who have disabilities.

"What we love is seeing the community come down to the Maxwell House and serving the community in ways in which they can meet the residents and connect with people who may be a little different than they are, but share some of the same needs: physical, mental, spiritual that everybody has," said John Moeller, President and CEO of Action Ministries.

Action Ministries is the leading provider of supportive housing programs in communities throughout Georgia.

Earlier this year Action Ministries Housing received a $100,000 grant that the organization uses to provide housing for individuals coming out of homelessness with disabilities at Maxwell House Apartments. In addition to providing the housing, Action Ministries Housing has been chosen to be the onsite service provider for the residents of the property.
