Official: Victims in Longview murder died of multiple gunshot wounds

KLTV has learned that the mother and daughter who were found dead in their Longview duplex died of gunshot wounds.

According to Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Arthur Fort, the autopsy report reveals that 28-year-old Laytoya Reese and her 11-year-old daughter Mya Rosetta Nichol Sebron were shot to death.

Authorities say that La Toya was shot twice in the head, and that her young daughter, Mya, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officials have identified the victims whose bodies were discovered Wednesday afternoon at a duplex in Longview.

Gregg County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Arthur Fort says the bodies were that of 28-year-old Latoya Reese and her 11-year-old daughter Mya Rosetta Nichol Sebron.

The two bodies have been transported to Tyler for autopsy.

JP Fort says the investigation will move forward as a double homicide.

In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Officer Kristie Brian with the Longview Police Department said investigators are looking for a person of interest in connection with the double homicide.

Police did not release the name of the person of interest, and stated they are not a suspect at this time.

Officer Kristie Brian with the Longview Police Department said, "We've had representatives of the District Attorney's office, Longview Police Department here at the scene taking pictures, video, measurements and things of that nature."

Longview Police obtained a search warrant, Wednesday afternoon and entered the scene at The Timbers community, in the 100 block of Jester Circle, a duplex community on the west side of town.

Longview Police say after responding to a welfare check, they made initial entry into the residence, saw two deceased individuals inside the home, and left the unit while awaiting a search warrant.

The residence is approximately half a mile south of Pine Tree Elementary.

On Friday afternoon, Pine Tree ISD issued the following statement:

The Pine Tree ISD family is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students.  The school district's crisis management procedures are in place to help children with their reactions to this tragedy.

As part of our crisis management plan, we have provided school counselors to meet with students this morning and throughout the day, in the student's classroom.  And counselors will be available throughout the week to help our students, faculty, and staff cope with this terrible tragedy.

Parents have been notified through a letter to contact the school should they have questions or concerns about their own son or daughter as they process the news about one of their classmates.
