Georgia Carolina State Fair set to open

Posted: Updated:

The final preparations are underway as the Georgia Carolina State Fair is set to begin.

"It's like a great big jigsaw puzzle and we are in the process of putting that jigsaw puzzle together as we speak," said fair manager William Taylor.

A jigsaw puzzle including rides, food and entertainment for visitors of all ages.

"If you're a family I would recommend coming like on Saturday during daytime, we open at 12," said  Taylor.

The fair manager says when it comes to rides, the staff and the state make sure they are safe.

"In the state of Georgia no ride can run without being inspected by the state," said Taylor.

The staff says to remember not to leave any valuables in the car and keep an eye on them inside the fair.

In case anything does go wrong, there will be officers patrolling the entire event.

"We probably have more police officers on this fairground per capita than any other event in Augusta," said Taylor.

There are certain items you can't bring into the fair including coolers, food, and of course weapons.

"It's a very safe place to be," said Taylor.

A safe place to be and for many Augusta residents, all part of a big tradition.

"I came down here on my daddy's shoulders as a little boy. My daddy came to this fair as a little boy," said Taylor.

The fair opens to the public on Friday at 5 p.m. Entry is only 25 cents on the first day.
