PHOENIX (CBS5) -

What started as an argument quickly escalated into a deadly stabbing in Phoenix early Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said the manager of a group home at 2900 block of East Roosevelt Street called police after Robert Guillen Garcia, 50, told him he was attacked by his 56-year-old roommate with a knife.

Garcia told the manager he grabbed the knife from his roommate and stabbed him to death.

The victim had several stab wounds to his chest and was dead at the scene.

Police said Garcia would not speak to them when officers arrived and later became combative. He also tried to escape after being taken into custody, Thompson said.

According to the police report, Garcia said he was hearing voices and "the voices were again telling him to do something."

Garcia faces charges of second-degree murder, second-degree escaping and two counts of resisting arrest.
