Auto auction raises thousands of dollars for Salvation Army

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Anybody need a car? The Salvation Army helped get several drivers back on the road Saturday.

Over a hundred people turned out Saturday morning for the Salvation Army's Auto Auction, to put a bid on more than 50 donated used cars.

All the money raised from the auction help fund Salvation Army programs, and is one of the organization's largest fundraisers.

Area Commander Captain Tony Perez says the auction is a "win-win-win situation."

"The donor wins by being able to sell the car. The purchaser buys a car at a decent price, and has something to get around. And then a life is touched," Perez says.  "And all of that is what it's all about, being able to bring three different worlds together to make a difference."

The Salvation Army raised between $50,000 and $70,000 Saturday.
