AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
Paine College hosted singer, Janelle Monáe on today at the Peters Campus Center. Monáe made an appearance to
encourage voting among students for the 2012 presidential election in
November.
Student groups at Paine have rallied together to
celebrate "National Student Day, which is a day promoting student
volunteerism and social responsibility through a variety of events. The
Paine College Student Government Association, Wesley Fellowship, LIONS
Activity Board and Greek organizations have hosted voter registration
drives since August to ensure all students, faculty and staff exercise
their rights in November. "Exercising our right to vote is extremely
important," said Keyla Connie, president of Wesley Fellowship. "We
appreciate celebrities like Janelle Monáe lending her support towards
events like this to uplift the importance of voting."
