Augusta, GA (WFXG) - Augusta-Richmond County commissioners will soon decide whether or not to create an energy tax excise.
In a special budget work session Thursday afternoon, they weighed the effects of House Bill 386, and energy tax exemption. The 2012 Georgia General Assembly's passage of legislation would phase out local sales tax over a four-year period on energy used in manufacturing.
The county is allowed to determine how to recoup the lost revenue by levying an energy excise tax. They have until December 31 to decide.
Commissioners also considered budget presentations from the city's external funded agencies.
