Richmond County Democratic Party watches first presidential debate

Augusta, GA (WFXG) - In one of the most anticipated presidential debates in United States history, members of the Richmond County Democratic Party will view the televised program together.

Wednesday night at the party's headquarters on Greene Street, a couple dozen residents cheered "four more years," rooting for President Barack Obama minutes before the debate.

While the economy and unemployment rates topped the list of issues members wanted to hear discussed, healthcare was the topic the majority of the group felt was the most important.

"We call it Obamacare," said L.C. Myles, Vice Chair of the Richmond County Democratic Party. "We embraced that name because there are just so many uninsured people, and it's just so important to the country for everybody to have healthcare; equal healthcare and we've proven over and over again that people with access to healthcare, they live longer and the have a better quality of life."

The Richmond County Democratic Party will host their monthly meeting on October 16 at 1190 Greene Street in Downtown Augusta.
