TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

A Border Patrol agent wounded by the same gunfire that killed a fellow agent has been released from a Tucson hospital.

The unidentified agent was wounded in the buttocks and lower extremities by bullets fired at him and two other agents who were investigating a tripped sensor near Naco just north of the Arizona-Mexico border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

He was released from University Medical Center in Tucson on Wednesday morning after undergoing surgery for his injuries, the agency said.

Agent Nicholas Ivie was killed by gunfire early Tuesday morning. The third agent was uninjured.

The FBI is heading the investigation and looking for the assailants.
