Accused squatter evicted

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A North Nashville neighborhood's long fight against an unwelcome neighbor may finally be over. For months the Channel 4 I-Team has been investigating Ashley King. Neighbors say he moved in to a foreclosed home more than a year ago and refused to leave. Tuesday, the law stepped in and locked him out.

Ashley King wasn't there when three Davidson County Sheriff's deputies showed up to kick him out. Neighbors had complained to the Channel 4 I-Team in the spring that King was squatting in a dead man's foreclosed home on 28th Avenue North.

Our investigation revealed he had been living here for months without paying HOA fees, rent or a mortgage. And, later, the Channel 4 I-Team's video showed two teenage runaways at the home. That sent King to jail.

Deputies put an eviction notice on the window, changed the locks and moved out what was left inside the house. But, it looks like King got the message before the law came knocking. There was no sign of him other than a refrigerator and a few pieces of furniture.

Despite everything the I-Team exposed, King managed to continue living in the home for quite some time. Then, this summer, the bank that owns the foreclosed home went to court to try to evict him. The bank's lawyers said King repeatedly used court filings to slow down the process.

Tuesday's move means he could be arrested if he returns to the north Nashville home again.

After our investigation revealed the two teenage runaways at the home, police charged King with two counts of harboring a runaway child. His trial on those charges is set for later this month.
