CHAPEL HILL, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas high school football player underwent emergency surgery after collapsing on the football field Monday afternoon.

Officials say a freshman football player at Chapel Hill collapsed during football practice on Monday afternoon.

The boy, who's identity has not yet been released, was taken to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Authorities say the player suffered a blood clot in the brain, but school officials say they're not sure when the boy suffered the injury that caused the blood clot.

The student is still hospitalized in Tyler.
