Man arrested for Richmond County car battery thefts

Investigators working to prevent vehicle battery thefts

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A Richmond County man is in jail following an incidence of car battery thefts.

Mark Andrew Lewis is charged with five counts of entering an automobile to commit a theft in relation to an incident at KIA of Augusta. Lewis, a former employee of the car dealership, was caught on video driving his red Mercedes Benz convertible onto the property, and then breaking into seven automobiles to remove their batteries.

The incident allegedly took place on in the mid-afternoon hours on September 23.

Lewis has been booked into Richmond County Jail.
